YEREVAN. – A Hilton hotel will formally open on Saturday in Downtown Yerevan, the capital city of the Republic of Armenia (RA), reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“Hilton is the third of global hotel chains—after Marriott and Hyatt—to start its activities in Armenia, and it is difficult to overestimate its part.

“The [hotel] management informed our correspondent yesterday [i.e. Friday] that the ‘star’ classification of the hotel is ‘4+.’

“It has three-class 176 rooms. The average price for a [one-day] stay in one room [at this hotel] is about 80 thousand drams [approx. US$166]

“[But] the problem is that this year a substantial—an about 4-percent—drop is noticed in the flow of tourists to the RA, and according to experts, this could become a stable trend.

“The drop in the number of tourists, naturally, will first hit the hotel business itself,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
