YEREVAN. – Russia being in a difficult foreign political and economic situation has a few allies, says an editorial article published in Aravot daily.

“Just as a person who treats life as a ‘struggle’ against surrounding enemies and almost has no friends and respect of his relatives because of his way of thinking, the countries with an ideology based on ‘protecting’ themselves from enemies finally appear in isolation. Under the circumstances Russia naturally does not want to lose Armenia, which being small, is at the same time one of a few allies,” the authors write.

This is the reason the Russian Embassy in Armenia is very much concerned about some Armenian activists, about the actions of Levon Barseghyan and Arthur Sakunts. According to the authors, the Embassy fears that Armenia may face Maidan, a movement that will push Armenia towards the West.

Russia saw another “Maidan” in the events on Baghramyan Avenue, and the water cannons used on June 23 were result of this vision. Later on the Armenian authorities, protesters and other experts explained there is no blow of “Maidan”  to their strategic ally and everything became peaceful.
