YEREVAN. – It became known on Wednesday that the trial of Russian soldier Valery Permyakov, who is charged with the murder of seven members of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri, Republic of Armenia (RA), is set for August 12, reported Zhoghovurd daily.

“It is apparent that the Armenian authorities want to start the trial as soon as possible; this haste may be due to perhaps one factor: seeking to complete the trial before the Feast of the Holy Cross, on September 14.

“It is a fact that the Feast of the Holy Cross and the subsequent Day of [Remembrance of] the Dead have a key importance in Armenia from the viewpoint of paying tribute to the memory of the dead.

“It is therefore natural that the RA authorities shall endeavor to complete Permyakov’s trial, or at least to enter the final phase, until then, wrote Zhoghovurd.
