YEREVAN. – The campaign against the proposed constitutional amendments in Armenia goes in several directions, and they are primarily known, reported Zhamanak daily.

“But just recently, another type of campaigners of the constitutional ‘no’ have also appeared, who assure that the matter of ‘no’ to the [new draft] Constitution [of Armenia] has already been decided in Moscow, and it was decided in favor of the current Constitution.

“According to these campaigners, they were informed from very serious sources that, during [President] Serzh Sargsyan’s recent visit to Moscow, RF [i.e. the Russian Federation] President Vladimir Putin [had] urged him to not hold the [expected] referendum on constitutional changes which he [i.e. Sargsyan] had launched himself,” wrote Zhamanak.

The new draft Constitution of Armenia is debated in the National Assembly. Pursuant to this draft, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
