YEREVAN. – The National Assembly (NA) debates on the proposed amendments to the Constitution of Armenia have ended on Friday, reported Zhamanak daily.

“As a result, it was clarified, once and for all, which political forces are going to support the constitutional amendments, and which are against—for different reasons—the holding of these amendments.

“The case of the RPA [i.e. the ruling Republican Party of Armenia] and the ARF [i.e. the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun Party] was clear from the outset[, as they favor these draft constitutional amendments].

“And lo, the PAP [i.e. the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party] also joined them yesterday [i.e. Friday], and in fact, as a result of the [NA] debates on the draft, the same political coalition formed that had formed after the 2007 parliamentary election, with the participation of the RPA, ARF and PAP,” wrote Zhamanak.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution of Armenia, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
