YEREVAN. – The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party plans to “sell” it being in favor of the draft Constitution as expensively as possible, and wishes to gain a greater presence in the future coalition government of Armenia, reported Zhamanak daily.

“The ARF realizes that even if they sign an agreement with the RPA [i.e. the ruling Republican Party of Armenia] and take offices in the [ruling] power in January, this arrangement will have a very short life, since the 2017 parliamentary elections are ahead, whereupon a need for new arrangements will surface.

“So, the Dashnaktsutyun wants to get more influential ministries to get more votes [in the next parliamentary voting],” wrote Zhamanak.

On October 5, the National Assembly passed, and by a vast majority of votes, the decision on agreeing to hold a referendum on the draft amendments to the Constitution.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

And the President has set December 6 as Referendum Day.
