YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan will be heading the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) campaign headquarters for the proposed constitutional amendments, reported Zhoghovurd daily.

“[But] he (…) said the matter will ultimately be resolved next week, at the RPA Board meeting.

“To add, Hovik Abrahamyan definitely assured yesterday [i.e. Friday] that he will not ‘temporarily’ step down from the office of the PM while working at the constitutional referendum headquarters.

“[And] it is most likely that Hovik Abrahamyan will head the headquarters without going on vacation, as if nothing has happened,” wrote Zhoghovurd.

On October 5, the National Assembly passed, and by a vast majority of votes, the decision on agreeing to hold a referendum on the draft amendments to the Constitution.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

And the President has set December 6 as Referendum Day.
