YEREVAN. – A total of 625 stillborn babies were recorded in Armenia in the first nine months of the current year, reported Zhoghovurd daily.

“To note, this indicator has increased by 47, as compared to the same period last year.

“It is a well-known fact that there are two main causes of stillbirth children: Bad socioeconomic conditions, and low level of health care.

“These figures suggest that the families, which are unable to provide their pregnant woman the necessary calorie-rich food, have increased in Armenia.

“Medical services for pregnant women are officially free in Armenia. But in reality, one can find [solely] one or two hospitals in Armenia where they will provide the necessary medical service to a person without payment. Hence many pregnant women [in Armenia], having financial problems, are unable to undergo medical checkups on a regular basis, and as a result, there are irreversible consequences,” Zhoghovurd wrote.
