YEREVAN. – Haykakan Zhamanak daily has reliable information that the Government of Armenia is discussing the placing of Eurobonds again next year, thus having a US$500- to $700-million new external debt, reported the daily.

“What is noteworthy is that this is not envisaged in the draft state budget for next year; that is, it is expected that the government will act according to the situation (…).This will be the [Armenian government’s] third placing of Eurobonds.

“Given the smooth worsening of Armenia’s economy, the interest rate of the Eurobonds will rise further.

“Getting debts by way of placing Eurobonds is convenient for the government from the viewpoint that the government is not accountable to any international financial institution for their use, [and] it spends this money at its discretion,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
