YEREVAN. – The consumer prices in Armenia rose by 4.4 percent from January to September of the current year, as compared to the same period last year. The National Statistical Service released this indicator on Friday, reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“According to this official information, the [prices of] food products in Armenia went up by 4.3 percent in the said ten months.

“The noteworthy thing is that during the same time, according to the just as official data of the UN World Food Programme, the [prices of] food products fell by 25 to 30 percent in the whole world.

“According to the basic rules of market economy, the cheaper food products in the world should have streamed into Armenia and become cheaper also in Armenia; but no such thing has occurred. And this is direct evidence that the most basic rules of market economy do not work in Armenia. There is no competition in the domain of imports of goods,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
