YEREVAN. – There are rumors being spread in recent times that the cooperation between the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) and non-pro-governmental Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) will finally result in that these two political forces will have a single candidate—in the person of second President Robert Kocharyan—in next year’s presidential elections, Aravot daily reports.
“Aravot clarified from PAP MP Mikayel Melkumyan: ‘Do you rule out that Robert Kocharyan will be ANC’s and PAP’s single candidate?’ He replied: ‘Nothing can be ruled out in general, but there is no discussion [made] so far; there is no decision [made]. So, as soon as there is [a decision], you definitely will know. But I don’t rule out any option.’
[And] To the query as to whether there is such option, Mr. Melkumyan responded: ‘There could be a variety of speculations whose foundations don’t exist today. There are speculations each of whose probability can be expressed in different percentages,’” Aravot writes.
