Council of Europe observers likewise call upon the parties to take active part in local government elections…

YEREVAN. – In reply to the observation that the political party-member heads of Armenia’s communities cannot be impartial during national elections, Communities Association of Armenia Board Coordinator Emin Yeritsyan said the following to Aravot daily:

“They should be impartial? They are public political figures, and they have a right and are free to manifest a political stance in any election. There isn’t any adverse phenomenon here. We should somewhat overcome Soviet thinking.

The Council of Europe observers likewise call upon the [political] parties to take active part [in local government elections]. This is the domain where the parties have a right to show [themselves], and no one has any restrictions.”
