YEREVAN. – “Both the people and us were disappointed.” Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction leader, RPA Supreme Body member Galust Sahakyan stated this during Wednesday’s briefing with news reporters, reflecting on Tuesday’s events that unrolled in capital city Yerevan, Aravot daily writes.

“What should [opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM] Raffi Hovannisian [who was declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote] have done a day earlier [on Tuesday] that he did not do? The RPA Faction leader responded:

‘He should have reckoned with the political arena. The Republic of Armenia should have had a formed opposition.’

In Sahakyan’s view, Raffi Hovannisian should have presented programs, he should have been able to make his demands presentable to the body politic and the authorities, alike.

‘I no longer consider Raffi to be a leader, and his actions no longer have any premeditation. As a result, we will have a disbanded opposition which, I believe, is a detriment,’” Aravot quotes Sahakyan as saying.
