YEREVAN. – We have learned from well-informed sources that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will travel to Strasbourg, France, on October 2, to attend the fall session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Zhoghovurd daily reports.

“The term of Armenia’s chairmanship at the CoE [i.e., the Council of Europe] Committee of Ministers is coming to an end and, according to the planned order, Sargsyan will address PACE, and subsequently respond to the questions by the PACE MPs.

“Even though in response to Zhoghovurd’s query Davit Harutyunyan, Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE, confirmed this news, after yesterday’s [i.e., Tuesday’s] meeting with RF [i.e., Russian Federation] President [Vladimir] Putin, Sargsyan will perhaps steer clear of heading to Strasbourg because a severe ordeal awaits him there.

“First, he will meet face to face with Armenia’s opposition representatives and respond to their questions. In addition, the Europeans likewise will bombard questions to Sargsyan, especially in the context of these foreign policy wanderings. [And] not to mention the Azerbaijanis,” Zhoghovurd writes.
