YEREVAN. – An appalling incident occurred Monday, in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, at the Austrian National Day reception, when the Austrian national anthem was performed, but that of Armenia was not, Iravunk daily reports.

“To note, the addresses began 35 minutes after the official opening of the event, and the Austrian ambassador’s remarks—as well as several other addresses—were not translated. The other remarks were the advertising of some business plans.

“Even though NA [i.e., National Assembly] Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan, several MPs, [and some] deputy ministers were on hand [at the function], no official representative of Armenia was given the floor.

“Seeing such a contemptuous attitude, a number of MPs demonstratively walked out of the hall,” Iravunk writes.
