YEREVAN. – 168 Zham daily spoke with aviation specialist Yuri Mnatsakanov.

“The adoption of the ‘open skies’ policy is premature for Armenia, and the concept developed by the McKinsey Company, [is] flawed.

“It would have been right to start the liberalization of Armenia’s air transport market from the ground; first, by getting rid of the monopoly of the services provided to [capital city Yerevan’s] Zvartnots [International] Airport,” Mnatsakanov said.

In his view, it is also indispensable to come to an agreement with the executives of the Armenia International Airports Company [which operates Zvartnots], so they may reduce their profitability.

“All those who seek to create independent passenger airlines in Armenia must take into account that it is better to abandon the idea of creating their own ‘dwarf’ airline and [instead] to set all efforts to creating one united airline,” Yuri Mnatsakanov argued.
