YEREVAN. – The natural gas agreement, which was signed on December 2 between the Governments of Armenia and Russia, is considered perilous in the sense that the document contains terms that curtail Armenia’s sovereignty, 168 Zham daily reports.

“Specifically, it refers to the provisions of the agreement, pursuant to which the Armenian parliament cannot pass laws that could be inconsistent with the provisions of this agreement. And these conditions will be in force until December 31, 2043.

“Can it [i.e., the agreement] be annulled?

‘“There are numerous possibilities [for this]; it’s just that several prerequisites are needed for its implementation,’ said MP Alexander Arzumanyan, former FM, [opposition Armenian National Movement] ANM Board Chairman, to our reporter.

‘“When a new government is formed, it definitely will have to examine the criminal component of the signing of the agreement. I am sure that evidence containing numerous criminal motives will emerge,’ he noted.

“He added that any person familiar with international law can assure that the agreement containing such articles could have been signed solely as a result of pressure,” 168 Zham writes.
