YEREVAN. – According to the latest Armenian National Statistical Service data, electricity production in Armenia has reduced by 4.1 percent from January to December 2013, as compared to the same period in 2012, which is an unprecedented fact, to say the least, Chorrord Ishkhanutyun daily reports.

“The sharp reduction in the volume of energy consumption is due to the population factor. In 2013, the population—that is, the number of potential consumers—[in Armenia] has reduced. And the people’s purchasing power has reduced even more and, as a result, the Armenian citizens were compelled to use electricity with extreme saving.

“But there is also the second factor. We have learned that the volume of electricity being exported to Iran has drastically reduced. What is more, it was the Iranian side that reduced the volume of electricity being imported from Armenia,” Chorrord Ishkhanutyun writes.
