YEREVAN. – Four athletes represent Armenia at the 22nd Winter Olympic Games that are held in Sochi, Russia, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.  

“Twenty-two-year-old Sergey Mikayelyan was given the honor of carrying our country’s flag at the opening ceremony. 

“The Sochi Olympics is the eleventh in the history of Armenia, including the sixth winter [Olympics].

“Our athletes have not yet won any medals in the winter Olympics, but they have broken a very unique record.

“Armenia’s flagbearer at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano [, Japan,] was skier Alla Mikayelyan, who is the mother of Sergey Mikayelyan, Armenia’s flagbearer at the Olympic Games in Sochi.

“This is the first time, in the 100-year history of the Olympic Games, when mother and son have deserved the honor of carrying the flag of a country,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
