YEREVAN. – The Russian-Ukrainian conflict may directly touch upon Armenia-Ukraine relations, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.

Armenia is a member of the CSTO [i.e., the Collective Security Treaty Organization] agreement, and it has assumed some obligations within this framework.

“Specifically, pursuant to the CSTO agreement, if a member of this organization starts military operations against a third country, it may apply to the treaty member states for assistance.

“RF [i.e., the Russian Federation] and Armenia are CSTO members, whereas Ukraine is not. In other words, if the Russian-Ukrainian conflict turns into armed clashes, RF may apply to Armenia with a requirement-request to ensure a military presence, or to show political support [for Russia],” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
