YEREVAN. – According to reliable information, National Assembly (NA) deputy Karen Karapetyan, whom the authorities are preparing to nominate as NA speaker, categorically refuses to take on this role, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“If they fail to convince Karen Karapetyan, the same circles note that [ruling] RPA [Republican Party of Armenia] Vice Chairman, RPA NA Faction Head Galust Sahakyan may be nominated to the position of parliament speaker [should incumbent Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan is appointed Prime Minister].

“When our reporter asked Galust Sahakyan whether they [the respective discussion] are real, he responded: ‘No one can say anything. You are either elected or not elected National Assembly speaker. We don’t have such discussions,’” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.

On April 3, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan submitted his resignation to President Serzh Sargsyan, and the President accepted the resignation.
