YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia made a sensational decision to dig 70 new wells in the Ararat Valley and reopen 42 closed wells, Zhamanak daily reported.
“But at the proposal of the Ministry of Nature Protection months ago, the government had banned the issuance of water use permits for new wells for fishery purposes in the Ararat and Armavir Regions.
‘“Today, the government substantiates something, tomorrow, [it substantiates] its direct opposite,’ water resources expert Knarik Hovhannisyan expressed a view to Zhamanak adding: ‘They are manipulating by bringing the farmer’s interest,’” Zhamanak wrote.
