YEREVAN. – It seems the name of Armenia National Assembly Chief of Staff and former Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan is being removed from the list of the candidates for Armenia’s judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“The upper echelons of the authorities are saying that Tovmasyan has decided to get prepared as presidential candidate for the CC [Constitutional Court of Armenia].

“Our sources report that at present, Georgi Kutoyan, [President] Serzh Sargsyan’s advisor on legal matters, is considered the authorities’ most likely candidate as Armenia’s [next] judge [at ECtHR].

“[But] Deputy Prosecutor General Emil Babayan also continues to be in the list of candidates.

“The other most likely candidate, Ara Ghazaryan from the non-government sector, [on the other hand,] cannot be reached for several days, and his decision on whether or not to run is unknown,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
