YEREVAN. – The final version of the concept for making amendments to the Constitution of Armenia is awaiting President Serzh Sargsyan’s approval, Zhoghovurd daily reported.

“But is not yet clear when this will take place and whether it will take place at all.

“If four of the six NA [i.e., National Assembly] factions support the constitutional amendments, authorities can declare that there is a consensus.

“But Zhoghovurd has learned that the Armenian authorities are considering the option of not holding a constitutional referendum at all.

“Sargsyan could declare that he was against the constitutional amendments from the very beginning, but he initiated the process, since the opposition demanded a switch to parliamentary governance. Now, however, the same parties are opposed to these amendments, so he decided to stop the process,” Zhoghovurd wrote.
