YEREVAN. – Armenia has waited a long time for the coming of the world-renowned French Carrefour hypermarket chain, Hraparak daily reported.

“But the information we have received recently in connection with Carrefour’s business plans [in Armenia] has questioned whether this French giant’s coming to our country will be welcome.

“In case of cooperation with them, Carrefour [Armenia] demands that the supplier companies supply their products at very huge discounts. According to our data, the discounts they expect reach up to 15 percent and more. They explain this by the fact that they want to set the lowest prices in Armenia.

“As a result, however, the consumer does not really benefit from this, since in order to increase its minimum income, the supplier will have to raise the price of its product. As a result, Carrefour [Armenia] will take the product at an expensive but a largely discounted price for itself and, adding price to it, sell [it] at a very small reasonable price, as compared to other stores,” Hraparak wrote.
