TSAKHKADZOR. – Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with the leadership of Yerevan and regional pre-election campaign headquarters and the candidates included in the proportional list of RPA, on Monday.

Serzh Sargsyan again pointed out that it is important to hold fair and transparent elections and also mentioned that unlike other parties participating in the elections, RPA is the ruling party and is responsible for organizing the elections.

“For us, the representatives of the ruling powers, the situation is dual: we want to get many votes but we are also responsible for the others who want to get votes. We are responsible for our as well as our partners’, allies’, the coalition’s and the opposition’s actions. Because no one is going to make any difference on who the guilty ones are, who cast a shadow over the elections – everything will be prescribed to Armenia and I ask you to especially take this into account,” Serzh Sargsyan mentioned.

To note, parliamentary elections are to take place in Armenia on May 6, 2012.

Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.

For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%.

The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
