Iran intends to purchase about 5 bn cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Muhammad Bagir Bahrami told journalists.

“Presently the gas volume supplied from Azerbaijan to Iran under existing agreements is being discussed,” Bahrami said.

The memorandum of understanding on gas supply was signed between SOCAR and National Iranian Gas Company in mid November.

According to Azerbaijani mass media, the sides are expected to sign purchase contract by the end of 2009.
