ZURICH. - The Armenian Diaspora in Switzerland will not give up – they demand to launch a criminal case against Turkish Minister Egemen Bagis who denied the Armenian Genocide.

A criminal case for violating human values can still be launched against Egemen Bagis, the Turkish Minister on EU Affairs, Nouvelles d’Armenie reports. Sarkis Shahinian, the Secretary General of the Switzerland-Armenia Parliamentary Group tries to achieve this.

Shahinian informed that he applied to Zurich Court of Appeals as a complainant in connection with the court’s decision to not start a prosecution against Bagis.

To remind, on March 26 the Prosecutor’s Office of Zurich made a decision not to launch a criminal case against Egemen Bagis, who was under the protection of diplomatic invulnerability while denying the Armenian Genocide during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Prosecutor’s Office announced that the case is closed.

It is undeniable that Bagis denied the Armenian Genocide in Zurich at the end of January thus violating the Swiss law.

Andreas Dreisiebner, co-chair of Switzerland-Armenia Association criticized the disposition of the Prosecutor’s Office.

“The economic interests with Turkey are laid on a higher level than issues concerning human rights, that’s shocking,” he stated.
