Armenia’s main political forces participating in the parliamentary elections of May 6 have joined the proposal of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) and will not conduct any campaign on April 24, the Day of Remembrance of Armenian Genocide Victims.

The deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Galust Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that no campaign will be conducted on that day and there was need for additional announcements as it is a certain matter.

The spokesperson of Prosperous Party of Armenia Baghdasar Mheryan pointed out that ‘they are part of the Armenian nation and will commemorate the innocent victims on that day’.

The spokesperson of Armenian National Congress Arman Musinyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that ANC will organize a march to Tsitsernakaberd Memorial as they have done during the previous years. ANC will also not conduct any campaign on that day.

To note, ARF board member Armen Rustamyan announced on Friday that even though April 24 is officially a campaign day, ARF will not conduct any campaign on that day and he called to the other political forces to do the same.

Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.

For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%.

The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
