The Armenian Youth Federation of Western United States sent an open letter to the U.S. President Barak Obama calling him to recognize the Armenian Genocide, Asbarez reports.

“In 2008 when you were running for president the Armenians of America registered for voting in order to elect a president who would recognize the Armenian Genocide. By believing your words ‘I shall recognize the Armenian Genocide as president’ the Armenian Community supported your campaign. We voted for the hope that this country will have a leader who will stand for human rights and for changes after former presidents who were involved in denying the Armenian Genocide.

Besides, you did not fulfill your promise of correcting the injustice of the past towards the Armenian Community. During the last three years American Armenians were glued to the TV on April 24 in order to hear the world ‘Genocide’ in your announcements. After you were elected the Armenians of America were disappointed when you called the genocide Mets Yeghern. Not only did you not recognize the Armenian Genocide but also your announcements did not bring any justice, which we were promised during your campaign.

While your first term as president is reaching its end and you are hoping for reelection the Armenian Community feels betrayed and cheated. We contributed much energy, time and resources into your election and after almost 4 years of being in office it is evident that your statements were just pre-election rhetoric,” the letter reads.
