The Russian authorities have decided to radically reduce the traditionally magnificent Victory Parade in Moscow. On May 9 of this year, it will be held without the participation of military equipment, the defense ministry announced on Tuesday. Instead of tanks and missile complexes, only convoys will march through Red Square.

Military parades that did not involve the passage of heavy equipment were held in Russia from 1995 to 2007. But since 2008, missile complexes, armored vehicles, and tanks of the Strategic Missile Forces have again begun to pass through Red Square. The record holder was the anniversary parade in 2015, with 194 units of wheeled and tracked military equipment of various years, as well as 140 aircraft and helicopters. And the lowest number was set by the parade in 2024—with 61 units of equipment and only 15 aircraft.
