The president of the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has dissolved the recently elected parliament and called for new snap elections, Reuters reports.

Osmani had dissolved the parliament on March 6. A day earlier, lawmakers had failed to elect a new head of state within the established deadline.

The parliament had until the end of March 5 to elect a president, but Kosovo's ruling Self-Determination party failed to secure a quorum for the respective session and unite opposition MPs around its candidate, Assembly speaker Glauk Konjufca. Opposition parties have demanded that they nominate their own candidate.

"A parliament that is unable to elect a president has no right to drag out this process indefinitely, as MPs are trying to do now," Osmani said.
