Six Iranian sailors who were aboard a container ship detained by the United States on April 20 have been released and returned to Iran, the Tasnim news agency reported.

According to its information, another 22 crew members of the vessel Touska remain in custody, and Iranian authorities are continuing efforts to secure their release.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and President Donald Trump had previously stated that the vessel was detained after it refused to comply with demands from the U.S. military to alter its planned route through the Strait of Hormuz.

Since April 13, the United States has been enforcing a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in response to Iran’s actions, after Tehran restricted the passage of most vessels through this strategically important waterway, with the exception of countries that have reached agreements with it.
