French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Gyumri on May 5 as part of his state visit to Armenia and attend a major concert, according to the drafts submitted at Thursday’s Cabinet session of the Armenian government.
The government will allocate about 393 million drams, or more than one million US dollars, for the holding of this concert.
“On May 5, a major concert dedicated to the friendship of Armenia and France and the deepening of cultural cooperation is planned to be organized in Gyumri’s Vardanants Square. The concert program will feature Armenian and French thematic songs performed by renowned Armenian and French artists accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra,” the draft decision states.
Gyumri was chosen as the venue for this concert because, according to the government, there is a great love and interest in the French language and French culture in Gyumri, which is due to the assistance provided by the French people and government in the reconstruction of the city after the 1988 earthquake.
