The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) withdrawal from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is increasing tensions in the Arabian Peninsula and could lead to a conflict with Saudi Arabia, the Junge Welt newspaper reports.

"Tensions are rising in the Arabian Peninsula due to the UAE's withdrawal from OPEC. The main reason is the disagreements between the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Abu Dhabi wants to sell more oil in the future and believes that it is being excessively limited by OPEC quotas, which are largely determined by Riyadh," the report says. It is noted that in addition to the dispute over oil production, a new round of political disagreements has begun in relations between these two countries.

"The reason is that the Emirates have begun to pursue an independent foreign policy, which in a number of issues contradicts the interests of Saudi Arabia," the aforesaid German newspaper explains.
