A dog will become a permanent participant in the plenary sessions of the National Assembly (parliament) of Bulgaria, the latter’s national television reported.

The snap elections to the 52nd convocation of the National Assembly were held on April 19, and the first session of the new parliament was held on Thursday.

One of the new MPs is Ivan Yanev, who has visual impairments and uses the services of a guide dog, a Labrador named Rover. A few days ago, the two of them had visited the National Assembly building to study the routes.

Yanev was elected from the list of the Progressive Bulgaria bloc, which received an absolute majority of seats—131 out of 240—in the Bulgarian National Assembly. In parliament, they jokingly say that Rover is the 241st lawmaker. The Labrador will accompany its MP master to committee meetings and in the plenary sessions’ hall.
