Israel sent sophisticated weapons systems—including an advanced laser—to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to help defend the Gulf monarchy from Iranian missiles and drones, sources say, the Financial Times reported.

The sources said the system is a lightweight surveillance system called Spectro, which can detect approaching drones from up to 20 kilometers away.

Another source familiar with the matter said Israel has also sent a version of the Iron Beam laser air defense system to the UAE. The laser, which is believed to shoot down short-range missiles and drones, was first deployed by Israel earlier this year to fend off missiles fired from Lebanon by the Hezbollah movement.
