The speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, is ready to leave for the Azerbaijani capital of Baku. He announced this to reporters Wednesday.

When asked why Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev did not personally attend the European Political Community summit in the Armenian capital of Yerevan and just made a video address, Simonyan replied that he did not know. Instead, the speaker of the Armenian parliament noted that if invited, he is ready to travel to Azerbaijan on an appropriate occasion and expects a similar approach from his Azerbaijani counterpart. “I invite my [Azerbaijani] counterpart to visit Yerevan,” Simonyan stated.

According to him, the criterion of peace for him is that “children are not being killed” on the border, as well as a mutual refusal from aggressive political statements.

Alen Simonyan believes that now Ilham Aliyev is talking about peace and trade.
