The Armenian authorities have broken their promise not to take steps against Russia, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing Thursday.

“The leadership of Armenia..., and he, by the way, during his recent visits to Moscow, he [i.e. Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan] had assured that he would not take any steps against Russia. If this is the situation with guarantees, then it means that the leadership of Armenia is behaving this way not only in Moscow and not only with Russian citizens, not keeping its promises,” Zakharova said.

Russian society indignantly noted and remembered that Armenia provided a platform for the “terrorist,” Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy, she noted.

“With deep indignation and incomprehension in Russian society, they not only saw, but especially remembered the fact that Armenia, which we are accustomed to considering a friendly, fraternal country, served as a platform for whom? For a terrorist, for the head of the neo-Nazi Kiev regime, who was very warmly received in Yerevan,” said the Russian MFA spokesperson.

“Zelenskyy took advantage of such an incomprehensible favor from the leadership of Armenia, trying to get out of political oblivion, voicing his already tired Russophobic attacks. It was Zelenskyy’s visit to Yerevan that showed the citizens of Armenia the future that the European Union has prepared for them. I applaud [you] standing. No, this is not a mistake. This is a real gift. To show the Armenian people the Brussels nourished, who really became the embodiment of what the European Union is doing with the so-called ‘young democracies,’” Zakharova said.

This week, a series of meetings of the Armenian leadership with the several leaders of European countries—including Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy—was held in Yerevan. The Armenian capital hosted these events: the European Political Community summit, and the European Union-Armenia Summit.
