The peace treaty with Azerbaijan cannot be signed in its current form. Chairman of the Bright Armenia party, Edmon Marukyan, stated this in Yeraskh village Friday, the first day of the election campaign for the parliamentary elections on June 7.

The politician reminded that to date, Azerbaijan has not recognized the territorial integrity of Armenia in square kilometers, and at least a map should be attached to the peace treaty.

“Our authorities are deceiving us all, saying that we have mutually recognized the territory in accordance with the Almaty Declaration. There are no maps in the declaration, they are some principles. A map should be attached to the treaty. Until this happens, no one has the right to sign,” Marukyan said, adding that the process should be mutual: “we have recognized [it], you recognize [it], too.”

Answering the question about Armenia’s relations with Turkey, the politician said that Ankara closed the border, and it is they who must reopen it, and when the border reopens, Bright Armenia party is ready to work. At the same time, Marukyan stated that the party will submit to parliament packages of laws designed to protect the Armenia's economy.

Also, he said that after the occupation of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) by Azerbaijan, he had proposed to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to create a ministry for refugees, to which Pashinyan had not agreed, and that was the last meeting between Marukyan and Pashinyan. According to the politician, the creation of such a ministry would have enabled to solve the problems of most of the 150 thousand Armenian refugees from Artsakh, but the incumbent Armenian authorities preferred to downplay the importance of these problems.

“The inalienable right of return of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized by the international community,” the leader of the Bright Armenia party added.
