Cultural, humanitarian, and universal ties between Russia and Armenia continue to be one of the pillars of our relations, Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin said in an interview with Iravunk Media Holding.

“They are based on centuries-old friendship, mutual assistance, joint struggle and work, heroic victories and great achievements. Among the most important unifying events in our shared history is the general victory over Nazism. Armenia’s contribution to that victory is difficult to overestimate. More than 600 thousand sons and daughters of the Armenian people went to the front, who, alongside all [other] Soviet peoples, shoulder to shoulder defended the freedom and independence of the united homeland. The names of the legendary military leaders, marshals and admirals of the Soviet Union, the names of people born in Armenia, are eternally written in the history of the Great Patriotic War. The contribution of the rear workers to the victory is also invaluable, who, sparing no effort, worked in enterprises, collective farms, factories and workshops, providing the front with everything necessary. As you remember, in 2024, at the CIS summit in Moscow, the honorary title of the Commonwealth was established—‘City of Labor Glory in 1941-1945.’ Today, this status has been granted to 19 cities, including the Armenian Gyumri,” the Russian ambassador to Armenia added.

 The diplomat noted with regret that today Nazism is again raising its head, gathering strength in the countries of Europe in the campaign of distortion of historical truth, justification of the Hitlerites and their accomplices, erasing the decisive role of the Soviet Union in liberating the world from the “brown plague”.

"In this context, we [i.e. Russia] are grateful to our Armenian colleagues for their regular support and co-authorship of the UN General Assembly resolution on combating the heroization of Nazism, which is submitted annually by Russia," the Russian ambassador to Armenia added.
