Armenia does not see a systemic crisis in relations with Russia, despite serious questions on individual points of the bilateral agenda. This was stated today, on May 9, by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, in response to a question from NEWS.am at Victory Park.

He noted that if the full spectrum of interstate ties is considered in the aggregate, then despite the discussions that arise, there is currently no question of a deep rupture or a fatal crisis.

Commenting on criticism from Moscow regarding the provision of a platform for Volodymyr Zelensky within the framework of the European Political Community summit, Grigoryan stressed that Armenia was merely following the established international format of the event. 

The Security Council Secretary emphasized that Yerevan organizes forums of a global level and follows all protocol procedures that stem from this, seeing no problems for allied relations. He added that for the country, its own statements and official position are a priority, not monitoring the remarks of every individual guest.

Notably, the head of the agency responsible for national security effectively distanced himself from Volodymyr Zelensky’s resonant speech, delivered precisely in Yerevan. Asked about the Ukrainian leader’s calls to strike Moscow with drones during the parade, Armen Grigoryan said he was not familiar with such statements.

Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking on May 4 at the opening of the European Political Community summit in the Armenian capital, said that drone attacks on Red Square could be possible during the May 9 parade. These statements provoked a sharp reaction from Moscow: Armenia’s ambassador was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where it was pointed out that providing a platform for such threats against an ally was unacceptable.
