Until such a need arises, we do not intend to put the matter of membership in the EAEU on the agenda. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who is currently on vacation and heads the ruling Civil Contract party’s proportional representation list for the parliamentary election on June 7, told this to reporters Monday.

Pashinyan noted that Armenia will do this only when the need arises. In his assessment, however, there is no such objective need.

“We [i.e. Armenia] treat our partners in the EAEU [i.e. Eurasian Economic Union] with great respect, we treat our participation in the EAEU with great respect,” the premier added.

A few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin had called on Armenia to hold a referendum and choose between membership in the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union.
