The speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, drew parallels between Armenia’s political course and the beginning of events in Ukraine in connection with the recent holding of the European Political Community summit in Armenia’s capital. Yerevan.

Volodin recalled that ahead of Victory Day on May 9, a summit was held in Yerevan, which was attended by guests of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and was followed by speeches and statements by those who came to Armenia, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Today, the question has become obvious to everyone: how will relations develop after such actions by Pashinyan? Will our [two] states be closer or further apart? Will the tension in relations be less or more? Most likely, the second. An involuntary parallel arises: this is exactly how it all started in Ukraine. Do ordinary citizens of Armenia need it?” Volodin wrote on his account on the Max platform.

He noted that Russia has one of the closest and best relations with the Armenian people, the number of Armenians living in Russia is almost equal to the number of those living in Armenia, and Armenians in Russia demonstrate themselves on an equal footing with other nationalities, holding positions, being elected MPs, and helping their relatives and friends living in Armenia.

"I predict that there will be statements like: ‘We are a sovereign state, we do whatever we want.’ No one is talking about sovereignty and interference. It is about morality and decency. They either exist or they do not exist. You can hold high positions, but this does not mean that a person is endowed with these qualities," added the speaker of the Russian State Duma.

According to Volodin, Russia's relations with countries are built on the principles of friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation, non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states, and where they are formed comprehensively, it turns into a strategic partnership and, moreover, into allied relations.

“And, of course, taking into account the achieved level, the work is built, it is emphasized how important it is for us to develop relations between countries and peoples. For our part, despite the fact that the State Duma is represented by various political factions and each MP sees the situation in his own way, we are trying to do everything to strengthen friendship. In fact, we are constantly monitoring this,” the speaker of the Russian State Duma concluded.
