The Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: Yesterday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was hosted by RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for 15 minutes at Yerevan's Zvartnots [International] Airport, they initialed the charter on [comprehensive] strategic partnership [between the two countries], he gave a short opening and closing remark, and left [Armenia].
[Armenian] authorities’ figures present this as the cooperation of the century, a new milestone in Armenian-American relations, emphasizing how much America underscores the role of the RA, end especially against the backdrop of this visit, the issue of US diplomatic representation in Armenia has once again become active in public and political discussions. In particular, if the US is important to Armenia, why is there currently no US ambassador in Armenia?
Let us recall that since December of last year, US Ambassador [to Armenia] Kristina Kvien has been recalled, and she is being replaced by the deputy chief of mission. The [US] embassy [in Yerevan], of course, is actively working, but the US does not have an official first person in Armenia.
