Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, has issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of the first Republic Day anniversary.

The congratulatory message reads as follows: “From the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we send our Pontifical blessings and congratulations to all our people in our homeland and in the [Armenian] diaspora, on the occasion of the Republic Day.

Marking the establishment of the first Republic of Armenia, we remember the heroic battles of Sardarapat, Gharakilisa and Bash Aparan. Catholicos of All Armenians Gevorg V played a decisive role in those historical battles for existence. In the life-and-death struggle, the brave sons of our people, including the clergy of our Holy Church, won victory and secured for generations the fair right to live independently and freely in their native land. With the same indomitable spirit, the devoted sons of our nation selflessly defended their homeland in modern times, many sacrificed their priceless lives for the unshakable integrity and a safe and dignified future of our statehood. Today, as a nation, we bow our heads before our heroes and eternally keep their bright memory in our hearts.

In the current difficult times, in the face of external and internal challenges, we shall unite and jointly strengthen our state, make the life of all Armenians flourishing and beautiful.

May the Almighty God abundantly bless and keep our country and our Christ-loving people in Armenia and in the diaspora strong today and always. Amen.
