The threat level for shipping in the Gulf of Oman has now been reduced from “critical” to “high” amid increased naval activity and regulatory measures, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre said.

It said shipping volumes in the Strait of Hormuz remained significantly reduced, although no security incidents had been reported in the past 48 hours.

According to UKMTO, only three ships passed through the Strait on Wednesday and seven on Tuesday, compared with an average of 138 ships per day before the military operations.

At the same time, it is noted that the threat of mining of shipping routes passing through the strait and disruptions in the operation of satellite navigation systems still persist.
