The Kremlin has published the joint statement by the leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan on the situation surrounding Armenia.

“We, the Presidents of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation, taking into account the actions of the Republic of Armenia aimed at joining the European Union, including the Law of the Republic of Armenia ‘On the Commencement of the Process of Membership of the Republic of Armenia in the European Union,’ approved by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and signed by the President of the Republic of Armenia in 2025, as well as the European Union’s affirmation of the European aspirations of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, expressed in the joint declaration adopted on May 5, 2026 following the results of the first Armenia-European Union Summit, taking into account the significant risks to the economic security of the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union (hereinafter referred to as the Union) arising from the preparation of the Republic of Armenia for membership in the European Union, as well as the need to prevent damage to the Member States of the Union caused by this:

We have decided that the members of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Russian Federation will report on the possible consequences of the suspension of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union for the Republic of Armenia at the next session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council to be held in December 2026.

We share the position that it is necessary to hold a nationwide referendum in the Republic of Armenia in the shortest possible time on joining the European Union or remaining part of the Eurasian Economic Union,” the joint statement reads.
