Iran and the US are considering the possibility of including a provision in the draft agreement on the cessation of the conflict that would strengthen the deal through a UN Security Council resolution, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei announced Monday.

“We are still discussing the general provisions. If the deal is concluded, it should be adopted in the form of a UN Security Council resolution,” Baghaei said, Fars news agency reported on Telegram.

According to the Iranian MFA spokesperson, the parties continue to exchange messages, but a final decision on the document has not yet been made. At the current phase, 14 main provisions of the future agreement are being discussed.

At the same time, Baghaei clarified that Iran does not view a possible UN Security Council resolution as an absolute guarantee of the implementation of the agreements.

The MFA spokesperson said that the Iranian side already has a negative experience, during which international legal mechanisms did not ensure the observance of the agreements reached.
