Deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, made a post on the occasion of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s birthday, compared his actions the call for a referendum on Armenia’s staying in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) or membership in the European Union (EU) with the decisions of Soviet politician Lev Trotsky.

“Comrade Nikol went down the dangerous path of comrade Trotsky. Responding to the call to hold a referendum on which integration union Armenia should join (the EAEU or the EU), he applied Lev Davidovich’s legendary formula: ‘Neither war nor peace, but disband the army,’” Medvedev wrote on X.

The deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council recalled that such a resolution led to the fact that Soviet Russia was still forced to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in 1918, but “on much worse terms.”

“Well, Trotsky’s winding path ended quite tragically for him,” Medvedev added.

He concluded his post with a congratulatory message to Nikol Pashinyan, who celebrates his birthday on Monday.
